CAT tools
TECHNOLOGY THAT OPTIMISES GLOBAL COMMUNICATION… AND YOUR BUDGET
What are CAT tools?
CAT tools ≠ machine translation
Remember: Machine translation (MT) is not the same as computer-assisted translation (or CAT).
Even though CAT tools are now widely recognised and used in the translation industry, this is not yet true for MT. Over the Word has therefore partnered with SDL, a global leader in its field, using its widely recognised Trados Studio software to optimise your translation projects.
What are CAT tools used for?
We use CAT tools for virtually all of our projects. CAT tools are most useful when your documents contain repeated text from previous projects, between documents forming part of the same project or within a single document. The goal is simple: create a translation memory, link source segments to target segments and feed translations into the memory after each project. Each new document is then analysed, using this translation memory, in order to identify what has already been translated previously. A sentence that has already been translated only needs to be checked, updated or proofread.
What advantages do CAT tools provide to clients?
- Optimised quality and consistency of translations over time
- Shorter turnaround times
- Significant savings, in particular for large documents updated every year, such as annual reports and registration documents
Thanks to our client-specific translation memories, there’s no longer any reason to translate the same content twice!
CAT tools = time & cost savings + harmonised translation
CAT tools = quality benchmark for your future projects
